I’m a Gardening, Homemaking, Jesus-Loving, Organic-Living, All-Natural Mama.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture, and love all things soil and plant related.
I strive to be environmentally friendly, recycle all that I can, compost what I can’t and feed to my worms all of the extra yummy scraps.
I believe in a simple lifestyle, living off the land, making as much of my families products as I can, and giving thanks in all areas of life.
I realized, as I got married, and then got pregnant right away, that I wanted to stay home with my daughter full time. My garden, Etsy shop and blog allow me to do that. My husband and I felt God putting it on our hearts to trust in Him and that He will provide any financial short comings that might come to pass, with me not working full time…So I honed my hobbies and started using them to make a profit!
I decided to start a blog, in a WORLD of blogs, because I searched for weeks for “At Home” jobs I could do, while staying home with my daughter. I obviously prayed, A LOT, about what to do in regards to helping supplement our income, and was getting more and more frustrated as the days went by (basically it was me trying to take matters into my own hands…you think I would have learned by now). Daniel (my wonderful, incredible, sensible, level-headed husband, who never stops letting me just do my thing) and I had some serious talks about how I just wanted to garden. But how, besides lowering our grocery bill, could that help us in the long run?
Then, these crazy ideas started popping up into my head. How do I make money gardening? How do I make money showing and teaching people about how much healthier and easier it is to make their own canned products and home products? How will I bring my plant and herb knowledge into the world, and show people what Herbalism is and natural healing is?
I thought I was going insane, to be honest. I am normally an “act first and think later” person. Which has gotten me into plenty of trouble in the past, ha!
So I spent a couple of days really praying and seriously evaluating what it would be like to write a blog, and do it correctly. I knew I couldn’t just get on “Blogspot” or “Blogger” and make a living from any free website. I was going to have to use social media, a good blogging host site, and pay some sort of fee to get a blog up and going.
Buzz, buzz, buzz went my thoughts. Then I woke up one night at 3:30am and couldn’t go back to sleep. You know that saying, if you can’t sleep, it’s Gods way of telling you, you need to be praying? Well I went downstairs, opened my bible and I started reading. I don’t know what led me to 1 Corinthians (who am I kidding, GOD led me to 1 Corinthians) and started reading about the Wisdom and Power of God. And this just really stuck out to me.
1 Corinthians 1:25-28 (NIV)
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame to wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are.”
That coupled with 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 which talks about laying the right kind of foundation, and that if you use silver and gold (money) to build your foundation, it will not stand, made me very humble.
I had been thinking of this blog or ANYTHING for that matter, as a means to make money, money, money.
That night, I just felt God say “It can’t be about the money or the glory, or the power. It must be about reaching others. Reaching the lost. Every article should reference the beauty in this world, despite the ugly. Show Christ, using the talents I have given you. Lead other to him…and he will bless you beyond what you can imagine (and not necessarily in a financial sense, but blessings of a spiritual nature)”
So that night, I felt God’s peace, and I felt my brain go silent. I felt God’s blessing in this venture.
So that’s why I decided to write a blog!
Now on to the fun stuff…
What I plan to write about includes but isn’t limited to:
-Starting, planting, and harvesting plants
-Growing your own food
-Growing your own food on a small amount of land
-Growing enough food to feed your families
-Making your own products (Organic beauty and household products)
-Making jellys, jams, and canning produce
-Storing produce from the garden
-Making food products (bread, crackers, snacks, etc)
-And a whole lot of Jesus
(That ^^^ is not my garden…although I’m working on it ha!)
I can’t wait to begin writing articles and helping others succeed in gardening, natural living, and finding Jesus in it all.
