I am a recipe sharing snob.
There. I said it.
When someone asks for a recipe of mine, I inwardly cross my arms, stick out my bottom lip, and firmly sit down on my butt.
Classic “Toddler throwing tantrum” look.
Outwardly I say, “Oh sure! Let me send that to you right away!”
What can I say, I’m a work in progress.
I love my granola recipe. My family loves my granola recipe. My husband and kids love my granola recipe.
I love it because it’s simple and very flexible. I usually stick to a few main staples, like always putting vanilla in, or making it Gluten and Diary free. Other than that, switching up what nuts and seeds you put in, really lets you tailor my granola recipe to be your own.
Don’t have flax seed? Don’t add it.
Don’t have chia seed, but you have hemp seed? Use hemp instead.
Have a nut allergy in the family? Add other seeds instead and omit the nuts.
It’s really wonderful how versatile the recipe can be.
Here is my standard, go to Granola Recipe…
Easy, step by step granola recipe. Adaptable to your personal tastes. Gluten Free and Vegan.
- 4 Cups Oats (If you want to make sure this is Gluten Free, use Gluten Free Oats.)
- 1 TBLS Cinnamon (Ground)
- 1 1/2 Cups Seeds/Nuts (I use equal amounts: pumpkin seeds, pecans, chia seed, and flax seed.)
- 1 Cup Coconut (Shredded)
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil (You can use coconut oil (melted) if you would like. I have tried Olive Oil and it makes the granola taste rancid and doesn't keep as well.)
- 1/3 Cup Honey
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all of your dry ingredients. (Oats, cinnamon, seed/nuts, coconut, and salt).
Make a well in the center of your dry mixture.
Pour into center the vanilla extract, vegetable oil, and honey.
Mix everything together well. (I use my hands to incorporate the honey into everything. Otherwise I usually get globs of honey in places.)
Divide granola between 2 pans. Preferably 9x13's or pans with higher sides to allow you to stir the mixture.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
